UPDATED: 1:14 pm PST January 27, 2008

A motorcyclist was killed when a van driver made an illegal U-turn in his path in Paradise Hills, police said Sunday.

The crash in the 3000 block of Valley Road at 4:29 p.m. Saturday killed 55-year-old Robert Hugh Reed of Sacramento, the county Medical Examiner's Office said.

A 40-year-old woman driving the van made an illegal U-turn in Reed's path, and he was not able to avoid a collision, said Sgt. Bob Dare of the San Diego Police Department.

Reed died at the scene of massive injuries, Dare said, but the van's driver was not injured.

The accident was still under investigation Sunday, and police said they were evaluating possible charges of vehicular manslaughter.
