SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Sheriff's homicide detectives Thursday investigated the death of a 75-year-old woman whose body bore signs of foul play. Mimi Rohwer was found dead in her home at the Casitas del Sol Mobile Home Park on East Barham Drive early Wednesday morning, according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Dennis Brugos. Authorities went to the home after Rohwer's family contacted them, saying they had not heard from the woman since Saturday.
"A preliminary examination of the body raised suspicion that the death of Rohwer might be the result of foul play," Brugos said, without elaboration. Sheriff's officials have not elaborated on what exactly raised suspicion. The great-grandmother, a high priestess of Wicca, a religion rooted in pagan beliefs, had been feuding recently with a neighbor and a 57-year-old migrant worker who lived with her, The North County Times reported. Rohwer regularly wrote letters to the editors to the Times and following news of her death, neighbors told the Times she was "really ticked off" at one neighbor who sometimes blocked her driveway and had frequent guests at all hours. Neighbors also told the Times that Rohwer was fed up with the 57-year-old migrant worker she had taken in several years ago when he did some work on her place, and had asked him to leave repeatedly, but he always refused. Sheriff's officials have named neither the neighbor nor the live-in worker as a suspect in the case.
