Police: Man Enters House, Steals Girl's Underwear

POSTED: 6:29 am PST January 18, 2008
UPDATED: 6:25 pm PST January 18, 2008

A man accused of breaking into a 14-year-old girl's bedroom in Vista twice in the same day and stealing her underwear pleaded not guilty today to charges of burglary and receiving stolen property.

Efrain Omar Cristobal, 29, was ordered held on $75,000 bail.

The burglary occurred in the 400 block of Dorsey Way at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Art Wager.

The girl told sheriff's deputies she witnessed a man climbing in her bedroom window. The man fled before deputies could arrive but was found a short time later several blocks away, Wager said.

Using a description given by the girl, deputies stopped and searched Cristobal and found the girl's underwear in his possession, Wager said.

The girl was not injured in the robbery. Wager said deputies suspect Cristobal also burglarized the residence earlier in the day because they found another pair of the girl's underwear at his home after serving a search warrant.

The girl's family confirmed that they confronted a man in their home earlier in the day but did not report it to sheriff's deputies because they did not believe anything was taken, Wager said.

A readiness conference was scheduled for Jan. 30 and a preliminary hearing for Feb. 1.
