UPDATED: 6:23 am PST January 15, 2008

Seven illegal immigrants were found crammed in a small car pulled over by police in Mountain View, 10News reported.

A San Diego police officer signaled for the car's driver to pull over at 47th Street and Logan Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. on Monday, said San Diego police Sgt. Dave Jennings.

The driver stopped but then quickly got out of the vehicle and ran up 46th Street, Jennings said, adding that a police helicopter crew helped ground officers chase the man, who was taken into custody within 10 minutes.

Officers also took into custody six people crammed inside the car. None of them tried to run, Jennings said.

All seven people were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol and will be returned to Mexico, Jennings said.
