SAN DIEGO -- The city of San Diego's Megan's Law Web site of registered high risk and serious sex offenders was launched Thursday.
City Councilman Jim Madaffer and Police Chief David Bejarano were on hand for the unveiling.

The "pin map" site allows San Diegans to find out if sex offenders live in their neighborhood. The site was based on models used in Fresno and Fremont.
Users simply log on, click on the school, park, or other location in question, and up pops a map detailing the area within a one-half mile radius, 10News reported.
The system can give street names, but cannot give specific information about the offender.
"If there's a sex offender living on that corner, across the street, that kids walk by on a regular basis, I think -- as a parent of 1-year-old boys -- I would like to know that. And I think the public deserves to know as well," Madaffer said.
Parents can already find out the same type of information by going to the San Diego Police Department and asking for the Megan's Law data, but Madaffer said he wanted the information online.
"This is all about children. The city of San Diego is providing one more tool to help parents. The Web site provides additional awareness in order to keep children safe," Madaffer said.
The San Diego County board of supervisors approved a pin map for its Web site earlier this month. It is expected to be up and running in July.
City Councilman Jim Madaffer and Police Chief David Bejarano were on hand for the unveiling.
