ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- Firefighters and law enforcement officers received a special thank you from San Diego Chargers running back LaDanian Tomlinson.

On Tuesday, the 2006 NFL MVP and his wife, LaTorsha, hosted a special event at Kit Carson Park in Escondido to thank crews for their hard work during the October wildfires.

During the fires, Tomlinson and his wife were evacuated from their home, but firefighters were able to save the house.

"My wife and I went back and it was amazing. I don't know how the fire did not burn my house down," LT said.

Gifts and lunch were provided for more than 1,000 people.
