Woman Pleads Not Guilty In Escondido Robberies

VISTA, Calif. -- A woman accused of robbing Escondido convenience stores and restaurants pleaded not guilty Friday to five counts of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery.Michelle Lefever, 27, is accused of committing holdups on Oct. 23, 24, 26, 28 and Nov. 11 at, among other places, a 7-Eleven store, a yogurt shop and a pizza outlet, all in Escondido, Deputy District Attorney Bryn Kirvin said.An attempted robbery took place at a Vons grocery store, and four of the holdups were captured on surveillance tape, the prosecutor said.Lefever was arrested Nov. 21 after a short pursuit and was jailed on suspicion of auto theft, resisting arrest and other charges as authorities investigated the robbery spree.She has prior convictions for drug offenses and burglaries.Judge Adrienne Orfield maintained bail at $50,000 and confirmed a preliminary hearing for Jan. 9.
