Ex-Band Director Admits To Sex With Male Student

SAN DIEGO -- A former Helix High School band director admitted Thursday that she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student over the summer.Jessica Ashley Kahal, 22, is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 13. But Superior Court Judge Patricia Cookson told the defendant that since she had no prior record, she wouldn't do jail time.Kahal had been the band director at Helix High in La Mesa for just two months when school officials learned in October of her relationship with the student from the young woman's female roommate, said prosecutor Renee Palermo.
The student told investigators he had sex with the defendant five times in various parts of the county beginning in August, Palermo said.Kahal pleaded guilty to a felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor more than three years younger.
