U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel issued the following statement today on the shooting at Westroads Mall:

"Today, the city of Omaha bore witness to an uncharacteristically heartless event. What transpired at Westroads Mall has touched the lives of many throughout the state of Nebraska. My wife, Lilibet, and I ask all Nebraskans to join us in extending our deepest sympathies and prayers to the families and friends of the victims of today’s horrific tragedy."
