Injured Player's Hospital Stay Extended

POSTED: 5:09 pm PST November 26, 2007
UPDATED: 4:12 pm PST November 27, 2007

Injured high school football player Scott Eveland will remain in the hospital for at least four more weeks, 10News reported.

Eveland's family's insurance provider, Blue Cross, wanted to move him to a nursing home as soon as Tuesday.

However, the family appealed the decision and Blue Cross granted an extension.

Eveland has been in a coma since he collapsed during a football game in mid-September.

Doctors said he is slowly making progress.

Eveland's mother, Diane Luth, said her son kissed her cheek Monday and waved at his grandfather over the weekend.

However, Blue Cross notified the family that it wanted Eveland moved from the Palomar Medical Center's acute rehabilitation unit to a convalescent home.

"I don't think if he goes to facility, he'll get rehab he's getting here... he's doing so much more," said Luth.
