Police were looking for a black sedan with a damaged front end, and leaking radiator, that hit and killed a 17-year-old girl in Escondido, police said.

Marlene Resendiz was killed at about 5 p.m. Saturday at East Grand Avenue and North Rose Street, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

She died at the scene shortly after police arrived to the busy intersection, which is at the base of a steep hill on Rose Street. The car and driver were nowhere to be seen.

Based on evidence at the scene, Escondido police believe the car that fatally struck Resendiz suffered front-end damage, including damage to the radiator. Antifreeze was found at the scene.

Investigators would like to speak with two women who witnessed the collision. They say he women may have spoke to officers after the accident, but left before giving their names and contact information.

One woman was driving a copper color Chevrolet sedan. The other drove a copper or off-white sedan with damage to its rear.

The police department is asking that anyone who witnessed the accident or knows about the driver of the car that hit Resendiz to contact Officer Dave Zacchilli at (760) 839-4930.

The teen is survived by her parents, Andres and Theresa Resendiz of Escondido. She was also engaged to be married.
