14 arrests in Pacific Beach DUI checkpoint

PACIFIC BEACH - Fourteen drivers were arrested on drunken driving charges during a DUI checkpoint in Pacific Beach Saturday night.

About 1,575 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was in place from about 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of Garnet Avenue.  Of those, 788 vehicles were screened, 21 drivers were detained and 14 were arrested, the San Diego Police Department reports. Fifteen vehicles were impounded.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant through the California Office of Traffic Safety.
