In June, the 10News I-Team revealed that the Coronado Fault, which rattled as recently as 500 years ago, runs under Coronado and the San Diego bay. It comes ashore in San Diego near Seaport Village, just south of the approved project.10News also learned the land there is landfill, meaning it is more dangerous in an earthquake. The developer, Manchester, had its own geologic survey and stated that there was no danger. However, an independent geologist contacted by 10News disagreed, saying more study is needed.Local activist Ian Trowbridge said, “Both the developer, Manchester, and the Centre City Development Corporation are violating 3 laws on the books for decades that state what you can do in an earthquake zone.”The appeal to the City Council cites two laws which state that if a new fault is discovered, a new geologic survey may have to be done.
