The Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego received a $5 million gift from a Rancho Santa Fe couple, university officials announced Wednesday.

A portion of the money will go to an endowment fund that provides financial help for Rady School MBA students, according to UCSD.

"We are thankful for the support of Tanya and Charles Brandes and their foundation, because this gift will open doors to graduate management education for talented students," said UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox.

The Tanya and Charles Brandes Foundation supports local arts, science, education and community leadership programs, according to the university.

Tanya Brandes is a doctor who is involved in charitable medical services in New Guinea, Africa and other developing nations.

Charles Brandes founded San Diego-based Brandes Investment Partners in 1974.
