Man Jailed In Hit-And-Run Crash That Killed Son

An illegal immigrant who ran from a crash that killed his 9-year-old son was is in jail Sunday and facing multiple felony charges, including drunken driving.

Marcos Munoz-Sanchez, 33, was booked for several felonies in connection with the accident on westbound Interstate 8 near Texas Street about 1:30 a.m. yesterday, according to California Highway Patrol officers.

Alex Munoz, who was a third-grader at Linda Vista Elementary School, was declared dead at the scene of the crash. The boy was asleep in the front seat when his father crashed into the back of a pickup truck parked on the shoulder of the road, according to the CHP.

Muñoz-Sanchez, who is in the United States illegally and is not a licensed driver, got out and ran, a local newspaper reported.

The man's brother, Raul Munoz, who also had been drinking, picked up Munoz-Sanchez and took him home, where police were waiting for him, the paper reported.

Munoz-Sanchez was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit and run and drunken driving. Bail was set at $300,000. The brother also was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving
