SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Police say a woman suspected of burglarizing a car Saturday confessed to being a methamphetamine addict and thief, and took sheriff's deputies to a storage unit that contained what the officers said was a treasure trove of ill-gotten goods. Officers will get to work Monday identifying the pilfered personal items allegedly taken by the woman and her boyfriend, including handbags, wallets, personal identification and a motorcycle.
Deputies sent to a 9:30 a.m. burglary call at 333 Via Vera Cruz in San Marcos pulled over a couple in a blue Dodge Dakota pickup truck that matched a description of thieves provided by witnesses. In the truck, deputies found purses, cell phones and other stolen items. The woman agreed to take the deputies to a Carlsbad storage unit, where they found purses, wallets and at least 25 forms of personal identification. The woman, along with her male companion, told investigators they are methamphetamine users, said Lt. Tony Giammarino. Both were taken into custody. "During the course of the investigation, deputies found a lot more stolen property from what appears to be other burglaries as well," Giammarino said. "Deputies assigned to the case will Monday have to start unraveling this thing."
