LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The parents of one of four men accused in the beating death of a local surfer acknowledge that their son, despite having a good heart, is an aggressive young man who lacks direction, the Union-Tribune reported. Seth Cravens, 21, is one of four men accused of killing Emery Kauanui, a professional surfer, following a bar brawl in Pacific Beach on Memorial Day weekend. Since then, police have said they are looking into a least 15 assault claims connected to the four men, several of which surfaced after publicity over the killing. Cravens is also suspected by police in the February battery of a man outside a La Jolla Boulevard taco shop. Also facing murder charges are Eric House, 20, Orlando Osuna, 22, and Matthew Yanke, 20. Cravens' parents, William and Karen Cravens, said they were not aware of their son's troubles with the law. They have 14 grown children and 52 grandchildren. Karen Cravens told the newspaper they are deeply sorry over Kauanui's death but that their son "did not do what he is accused of doing. There is no double in my mind or my husband's mind." All four suspects, as well as the victim, graduated from La Jolla High School. Cravens is being held in jail on $2 million bail; Osuna is held on $500,000 bail. House was released after posting a $1.5 million bond and Yanke on a $1 million bond. A preliminary hearing for the four is set for Sept. 12.
