TEMECULA, Calif. -- Saturday's low-hanging fog altered some courses, but failed to dampen the 24th annual Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival, which continued Sunday at Lake Skinner.By midday Saturday, some of the cloud cover had lifted, though a light haze remained, as bands performed on several stages. Most of the balloons had to take off from a field at Rancho California and Anza roads near South Coast Winery, about three and half miles from Lake Skinner.
By 8 a.m., all but a few were airborne."The closer you get to the lake, the more fog you get," pilot George Rosander, 61, of Apple Valley told a local newspaper. In recent years, inclement weather has occasionally spoiled the balloon portion of the festival.Last year, visibility was ideal, but a lack of wind kept the balloons suspended over the lake for about 90 minutes.Rain or shine, the Savages said they plan to return next year with their four children and grandchildren."I'm going to have them all come out with their trailers. It's a good place for the family to come together and be together," said Ron Savage.
