EL CAJON, Calif. -- El Cajon education officials have rejected a discrimination claim filed by a parent who argued that his daughter should not have to share restrooms or dressing areas with lesbian students.
Trustees of the Grossmont Union High School District agreed Wednesday to accept a report that determined there had been no discrimination against Paul Scott's daughter.
Scott filed a complaint last month alleging discrimination and intolerance by "not addressing a very clear right of privacy violation" that required the girl to share facilities with homosexual students and staff.
Trustee Ted Crooks said that there were no allegations that students or staff made sexual advances to other students in restrooms.
Superintendent Granger Ward said that it would be illegal to implement Scott's demand for separate restrooms and locker rooms for students and staff who are or are perceived to be gay or lesbian.
"We do not see a resolution that he finds acceptable that is legal and appropriate," Ward told the San Diego Union-Tribune.
The trustees said that once Scott is officially notified in writing of their decision, he has 15 days to appeal to the state Department of Education.
