Police: Man Uses Skateboard To Smash Windows

A 28-year-old Encinitas man was taken into custody Saturday on suspicion of smashing vehicle windows with a skateboard, authorities said.

Deputies were called to the 1700 block of Crest Drive about 8:45 p.m. Friday, where a witness said a man, identified as Travis Skinner, was smashing windows.

The witness told arriving deputies that he had argued with the man, whom he thought he recognized, and that during the argument, the man smashed the resident's mailbox with his skateboard, sheriff's Sgt. Amy Brown said.

The suspect then allegedly walked over to a Mercedes Benz, jumped on top of it and smashed the rear window, Brown said.

The witness told deputies that the man then ran across the street and chased a woman back into her home before picking up a floodlight in front of her residence and allegedly throwing it at the house, breaking it, Brown said.

The suspect then walked up to two vehicles parked at that house and allegedly used his skateboard to knock off the driver's side mirror of one vehicle and the driver's window on the other vehicle, Brown said.

He then ran off, Brown said.

Deputies caught up with Skinner on Birmingham Drive and arrested him, based on witness identification, Brown said.

He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of three counts of vandalism, sheriff's records indicate.

Skinner remained in custody in lieu of $31,500 bail, pending arraignment Tuesday at the Vista Courthouse.
