Pedestrian Killed Walking On Interstate 5

POSTED: 8:51 pm PDT May 5, 2007
UPDATED: 1:43 pm PDT May 6, 2007

A 31-year-old Canadian man died on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton after a truck hit him, the county Medical Examiner's Office said Sunday.

The M.E.'s Office is not releasing the man's name, pending family notification, a medical investigator said.

The man was walking on the road Saturday when the tractor-truck trailer struck him, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident was reported at 4:41 p.m. on the northbound I-5, just north of a rest area.

It is possible that the truck driver never saw the victim, and the driver appears to have done nothing wrong, a CHP officer told broadcast stations.

Why the victim was walking on the road was not immediately known.
