SAN DIEGO -- The public will have a chance Saturday to pay tribute to Danielle van Dam at a memorial service at La Jolla Shores.
The public memorial will be held at 10 a.m. The location reportedly was chosen because of the 7-year-old's fondness for beaches. Her memorial will feature ribbons and balloons in her favorite colors -- pink and purple -- and it will be attended by her family, her friends, and a huge crowd of well-wishers, 10News reported.
Throughout the entire month of February, San Diegans were focused on finding the secondnd grader from Sabre Springs who was taken from her bedroom. Many had no connection to the child, and knew her only from the "Missing" fliers put up all over town, and the heartbreaking home videos shown in news reports that captured a playful girl with a flare for fashion. She constantly wore a plastic choker necklace -- her mother said she even slept in it -- and loved the beach. This week, the preliminary hearing for her neighbor, David Westerfield, who was arrested and accused of kidnapping and murdering the girl, found sufficient evidence to hold him over for trial.Because of limited parking at La Jolla Shores, a shuttle bus will be provided from the Torrey Pines Glider Port from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.The memorial service will live coverage of the memorial service will air live on 10News, NewsChannel 15 and TheSanDiegoChannel starting at 9:30 a.m.
