PHOENIX -- San Diego Padres outfielder Mike Darr (pictured, below) was one of two men killed early Friday in a rollover freeway accident in northwest Phoenix, 10News reproted.
Also killed in the accident was 23-year-old Duane Johnson. Both Darr and Johnson were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the car, according to 10News.
A minor leaguer named Ben Howard was also injured. He was treated and released at the scene. He was wearing his seatbelt.
Arizona officials say that Darr's SUV drifted into the dirt center median. The SUV then rolled across all three westbound lanes of the freeway and crashed through a fence, coming to rest beside a frontage road.
Officials believe alcohol played a role in the accident, according to 10News.
Darr, 25, appeared in 105 games in his first full major league season in 2001, batting .277 with 2 homers and 34 RBI.
Darr is survived by his wife, Natalie and two sons, Mike Jr. and Matthew.
