VISTA, Calif. -- A driver who police suspect was drunk was arrested Monday crashing a Ford Mustang Cobra, seriously injuring a passenger whose hand became trapped under the wreckage, authorities said.

The off-road wreck in the 1200 block of Vale Terrace Drive in Vista was reported about 12:45 a.m., the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

A woman riding in the car was partially ejected, and emergency crews freed her hand, which was pinned under the vehicle, said sheriff's Lt. Mike McClain, adding that the woman also may have suffered internal injuries.

The uninjured driver, a man whose name was not immediately released, was booked on suspicion of felony DUI, McClain said.
