Participants in Saturday's Guacamole Bowl had a tasty time raising money -- roughly $6,000 -- for the local Special Olympics, an organizer said.

Held at the Balboa Park Club, 2150 W. Pan American Road, 26 teams, many of them made up of local police and firefighters, competed for the tastiest guacamole.

About 700 people showed up to sample the dips, said Clara White, a Special Olympics assistant area director.

"That was really good for us," White said. "Everyone had a good time."

A team of San Diego police officers calling themselves the Hot Guac Cops won in the open division.

On The Border restaurant won the professional competition and a team of U.S. Border Patrol agents won the open competition.

Those who paid a $5 entry fee could eat all the guacamole they wanted, White said.
