Two Students Suspended For Allegedly Coming To Class High

POSTED: 4:00 pm PST March 6, 2007
UPDATED: 4:04 pm PST March 7, 2007

Two Grossmont High School District students were suspended after allegedly coming to class high on marijuana.

When asked about the marijuana, the students showed their medical marijuana prescription cards.

The school district said even if the kids have a prescription, it is still illegal to come to school with any drug because federal laws that prohibit drug use govern the school.

Parents agreed that if a child needs to use marijuana medicinally, they should stay home from school.

I would keep my kid home. I would say my child has medication issues, they have to be home and say my concerns and tell them, ‘I don’t think my child should be in school, they have to use this medication,’” said Grossmont parent Claudia Huerta.

The school district sent home a letter informing parents that they would provide home-schooling if a child needed to be under the influence for medical reasons.
