Man Collides With Police Car, Runs Away

Collision Caused Significant Damage To Police Cruiser

A man in a suspected stolen Honda Accord rammed into a police cruiser in Valencia Park Friday, causing "significant damage" but no injuries, then ran away, authorities said.

The officer spotted the vehicle in the 5100 block of Churchward Street about 12:45 a.m. and followed it until the driver pulled into a steep driveway nearby, San Diego police said.

When the officer pulled into the driveway and blocked the Accord, the suspect reversed the Honda and slammed it into the squad car's front end, causing "significant damage," said San Diego police Sgt. Rich Nemetz.

The suspect then drove forward and crashed into a brick wall before bailing from the car and running away, he said.

No injuries were reported.
