SAN DIEGO -- The couple who were brutally attacked outside a Hillcrest pharmacy said they're not angry at the man who stabbed them.

Caroline and Donald Stewart said they believe they could have died Feb. 4 when a parolee, Jared Jacobsen, stabbed and attacked them in broad daylight for no apparent reason.

But they said they want the stabbing to bring to light the needs for changes in the mental health system.

The Stewarts are heavily involved in a group called A New Path, which is dedicated to addiction treatment and healing.

Jacobsen, 31, is still in Central Jail.
