JW August
JW August has been involved in investigative reporting for 21 years at 10News. Before his current job, JW was senior producer for the Troubleshooter, which was primarily concerned with consumer fraud. Now, he oversees the expanded 10News Investigative Team.
The subject matter runs the gambit -- environment, inept or corrupt politicians, investment crimes, internet fraud, open records for citizens, criminal justice, service and product testing, air safety and more. JW won the Sunshine Award for open government from the National Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, as well as national awards for consumer and investigative reporting. The 10News I-Team have won many SPJ awards for investigative and enterprise reporting. He has won fifteen Emmys, including six for investigative reporting. JW was recently honored by the San Diego Press Club for lifetime achievement. The governing board of Californians Aware recently elected JW as the group’s second president. He is a board member of the San Diego Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. And president of Bilateral Safety Coalition Corridor, a non-profit involved in combating trafficking of men, women and children around the world. Last year, JW coordinated statewide television news participation in CalAware’s audit of public records practices in local law enforcement agencies as well as directing his own station’s part of the project.
