SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest man who rushed to help a couple who was stabbed over the weekend is talking about the ordeal.

Dan Ethridge said he was the first on the scene.

He lives next to the CVS Pharmacy where Caroline and Donald Stewart were stabbed on Sunday afternoon.

Ethridge said he tried to stop the victims from bleeding.

Police said the attack was random and just the latest in a string of violent crimes in the area, but Ethridge said he still feels safe in his neighborhood.

Recent street crime has prompted citizen patrols in the Hillcrest area.
