SAN DIEGO -- San Diego police are looking for a 19-year-old man accused of a series of local cat burnings.
The city attorney issued a warrant Wednesday for the arrest of Paulo Marques (pictured, left) of Brazil.
Animal control officials said that Marques is the prime suspect in four cat mutilation cases in the Pacific Beach area."We have impounded two cats from the Pacific Beach area that have been intentionally been set on fire -- which is the torturing of the cats -- and were able to tie him into those cat torchings," San Diego County Animal Control director Jim Wright told 10News."We are able to tie him to two other cat deaths. One cat death did happen Saturday. One other cat death happened several weeks ago," he added.
No one knows that better than cat owner, Milena Aubry. Her cat, "Bear," was one of the tortured cats."Bear has been going through multiple skin reconstructions and he has been in anesthesia in and out of the hospital," Aubry explained. After three surgeries, Bear's medical bills have skyrocketed to more than $3,000, 10News reported. He's well on the road to recovery but Aubry said that it's his attacker who really needs help.
"He's a very sick and disturbed person," she told 10News. "I work with mentally ill clients … that's what I do for a living and I think that this person gives my clients a bad name."Marques last lived in the 3800 block of Ingraham Street. His roommate said Maques made threats against cats in the past and killed his neighbor's cat.Authorities believe he may have fled to Brazil. If you have information on his whereabouts call (619) 236-4248.
