Cameras To Be Installed At Chula Vista Transit Centers

CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Security cameras will be installed at Chula Vista's three main transit centers to help deter crime, officials from the city and Metropolitan Transit System announced Monday.Twenty-eight cameras, which transmit images to MTS and the Chula Vista Police Department, will be placed at the Bayfront/E Street, H Street and Palomar Street trolley stations, according to the MTS."Anytime we have an opportunity to protect our citizens and to protect people, their lives, their property, I think we as a community want to make sure that happens," Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox said.
Chula Vista and MTS shared the $465,000 cost of the project.The cameras will record information continuously that police officers will be able to access from their vehicles, according to MTS.Similar systems have been installed at 10 other MTS transit stations around the San Diego region, officials said.
