SAN DIEGO -- When Santa Ana winds blow, driving through the mountains of San Diego County is difficult and dangerous. The California Highway Patrol officers even warned people driving high-profile and small, lightweight vehicles. But some drivers take their chances."I started in the fast lane, and I blew all the way over to the slow lane. I'm holding my bike up now so it doesn't blow over," said motorcycle driver Terry.A recreational vehicle is high-profile enough as is, but one was towing a trailer."It's pretty rough. I was taking a break. It's kind of dying down now so I'm going to try to make it a few more miles on it. But coming out of El Cajon was pretty tough," said RV driver Bob.Winds in San Diego County have been gusting to at least 50 miles per hour, which is as strong as a tropical storm. Some of those gusts were likely even higher, but on one stretch of Interstate 8, there are very few weather sensors. On Sunday in Valley Center, the winds were strong enough to knock over 18 telephone poles. One of those poles landed on a vehicle, but the driver wasn't hurt. All the poles are now back up.Valley Center Road between Vesper and Mac Tan Roads is still closed in both directions.Everything is expected to be back to normal in the next couple of days.
