A 19-year-old Hollywood man who admitted molesting a 13-year-old Oceanside girl he met on the popular MySpace.com Web site was sentenced Friday to three years in state prison.

Freddy Luis Alvarado is "deserving of this prison commitment because of (his) selfish and predatory conduct," Vista Superior Court Judge K. Michael Kirkman said.

Alvarado pleaded guilty to felony lewd acts with a minor under the age of 14 with substantial sexual contact.

According to a report filed by the county Probation Department, Alvarado and the victim chatted for a period of weeks on the Internet before the defendant gave her his cell phone number.

On March 12, the defendant traveled to Oceanside and took the girl to the beach, fondled her despite her objections and had sex with her, the report stated.

Alvarado told a probation officer that he thought the girl was 15 or 16, and that sometimes men can't control their desires, according to the report.

Deputy District Attorney Steven Carver told the judge that the victim's MySpace page listed her age as 14.

"She looks like 12 or 13 in appearance," Carver said.

The girl testified in a preliminary hearing that she lied about her age because MySpace requires members to be 14.

The probation report said that friends of the girl convinced her to tell her mother what happened.

The mother told the judge that her daughter "is still a mess."

The girl cries a lot, has withdrawn from her family and misses school frequently, the woman said.

"I'm sick to my stomach for what Freddy Alvarado did to my daughter," she said. "I'm sick to my stomach for what he did to our family."

Defense attorney George Bye told the judge his client is remorseful and apologizes for what took place.

Alvarado will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
