Sheriff: Woman Arrested On Suspicion Of Animal Abuse

Deputies arrested an Oak Park woman on suspicion of animal abuse Monday after finding dozens of dogs and cats inside portable pet carriers stacked atop each other in her heavily barricaded home.

Collura Street resident Ann Krohn locked herself inside the house when court-services personnel tried to serve her with an eviction order shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to sheriff's Sgt. Gregory Carpenter.

"Krohn had fortified the entire residence with multiple deadbolts, boarded windows, chains and barbed wire," Carpenter said.

Deputies eventually were able to force their way into the home and arrest the suspect, who allegedly had a switchblade knife in her pocket at the time.

Animal control officers took custody of seven dogs and about 30 cats found inside the house.

Krohn was booked on suspicion of animal neglect, resisting arrest and a misdemeanor charge of carrying an illegal weapon, the sergeant said.
