ELFIN FOREST, Calif. (KGTV) - Ten people were injured Tuesday after two SUVs collided in the unincorporated area of Elfin Forest.

Crews from the Rancho Santa Fe, Encinitas, Escondido, and San Marcos fire departments responded to the crash at the intersection of Elfin Forest Road and Harmony Grove Rd.

RSF said an SUV with seven teenagers had turned on its side before it was hit by a second SUV carrying a mother and two children. California Highway Patrol closed the road in both directions while crews worked to rescue those involved in the crash.

All those involved were able to get themselves out of their vehicles without help from emergency crews.

All ten were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries ranging from moderate to critical, according to RSF.

CHP has taken over the investigation of the crash. A cause has not been released.
