NATIONAL CITY, Calif. - One person was taken to the hospital after a collision between a National City police car and a Honda Accord.
The crash occurred at the intersection of 16th Street and Highland Avenue at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
National City police Sgt. Thomas Wilkins said the driver of the Honda was going southbound on Highland and the officer was heading northbound before the crash.
Wilkins said police are investigating what led to the collision. He said it is unclear if the officer was responding to a call or if he was reacting to a violation he witnessed before the crash.
The driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital to be treated for what are believed to be minor injuries. The officer was checked out on scene and was not taken to the hospital.
No one else was inside the patrol car.
Police shut down the intersection while they conduct their investigation. The closure is expected to last for about another hour.
