CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Police are investigating Monday a Chula Vista shooting where a gunman opened fire at two people sitting in an SUV.
Police said the uninjured driver took her wounded boyfriend to a hospital in the bullet-ridden vehicle.
The man arrived at Scripps Mercy Hospital about 9:15 a.m. Sunday to be treated for several gunshot wounds, which were not believed to be life-threatening, and police officers were called, Chula Vista police Lt. Eric Thunberg said.
The officers found the victim's uninjured girlfriend along with the bullet-damaged car in the parking lot. She told them a tall man in his 30s approached the passenger side with a small caliber handgun and began shooting while the SUV was stopped on Orsett Street near Fourth Avenue, Thunberg said.
She drove away while the suspect was still shooting at the vehicle, Thunberg said.
The Crimes of Violence unit was called to investigate.
