LA MESA, Calif. - A fire destroyed an apartment in La Mesa Tuesday and damaged two neighboring units, displacing a woman and causing an estimated $75,000 in damage, authorities said.

The noninjury fire at a six-unit, single-story apartment complex at 7130 Waite Drive was reported at 2:44 a.m., according to Heartland fire and rescue spokeswoman Monica Zech. Firefighters knocked down the flames about 10 minutes later, she said.

In addition to destroying the woman's apartment, the fire caused minor smoke damage to two neighboring units, Zech said, adding damage was estimated at $75,000.

The cause was under investigation.
