ENCINITAS, Calif. - One woman is dead and two others were injured after a car slammed into the back of a big rig vehicle hauler in Encinitas early Saturday.
The collision occurred just before 2:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Manchester Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the big rig was outside on the right shoulder of the freeway adjusting some straps on the trailer when the crash happened.
Medics tried to revive the driver of the car, but she died at the scene.
The two passengers were taken to a local hospital to be treated. There is no word on their conditions or the extent of their injuries.
Officers do not think the car's driver was drunk.
