1 dead, 1 injured in Chula Vista shooting

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - One man has died and another suffered moderate injuries after the group they were standing with was fired at by a single suspect in Chula Vista, police said Saturday.

The group of four or five men were standing in the parking lot of an industrial complex the near the intersection of Industrial Boulevard and Anita Street at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Chula Vista Police Lt. Kenny Heinz said.

They were approached by the suspect, Heinz said. Words were exchanged and witnesses said they heard seven to nine shots, with two of the men hit. The victims were not identified.

The suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans and was last seen running west on Anita Street towards Interstate 5.

The motive for the shooting was not known, Heinz said.

"There's nothing to tell us if it's gang-related or not," Heinz said.
