U.S. Keeps Pressure On Remnants Of Arellano-Felix Cartel

POSTED: 5:52 pm PST January 8, 2009
UPDATED: 6:28 pm PST January 8, 2009

The U.S. Justice Department is determined to continue the dismantling of one of Mexico's most-feared drug gangs, the Arellano-Felix organization.

Thursday, the Department issued an updated wanted poster showing that seven of the nine top leaders of the organization are either in custody in Mexico or here in the United States.

The faces are stamped with the words, "Arrested," "Extradited," and "Reward Paid" on those in custody. The U.S. government is offering up to $5-million dollars for information leading to the apprehension of the remaining cartel leaders.

A separate poster includes the photos of nine other men, including the man authorities believe is now the new leader of the cartel, Fernando Sánchez-Arellano, also known as "El Ingeniero."

The poster also includes photos of three men believed to be currently involved in a power struggle with Sánchez for control of the Tijuana/Baja drug trafficking corridor.

They are identified as Eduardo Teodoro Garcia-Simental, aka "El Teo", Raydel Lopez-Uriarte, a top lieutenant for "El Teo," and Jose Filiberto Parra-Ramon, also a top lieutenant for "El Teo."

Hotline telephone numbers in Mexico and the U.S. are included seeking tips. The toll free number in the U.S. is 1-800-720-7775. Collect calls from Mexico will be accepted at 001-858-277-4215. All calls will be answered by U.S. agents and will be kept confidential, the poster states.
