SAN DIEGO - Family, friends and community members gathered Friday to honor a San Diego soldier killed in Afghanistan.
Special Ops Army 1st Lt. Jennifer Moreno, 25, and three other soldiers were killed Oct. 6 in a roadside bombing.
The Logan Heights Veterans Memorial Committee organized Friday's ceremony, which began with a 21-gun salute.
Moreno's family members who were at the ceremony said they were heartbroken from the loss and described her as someone who was proud to serve her country.
"She was always very proud of her job, I was proud of her and she was proud of me," said Moreno's mother. "Thank you to everyone who came here, for all the attention for my daughter."
Moreno's body was brought to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware earlier this week. Her family said funeral has not yet taken place.
