LA Fitness buying Urban Active

CINCINNATI - It's time to say goodbye to the name "Urban Active" when it comes to health clubs.
LA Fitness, a national chain with more than 500 gyms, plans to buy all Urban Active clubs, according to a statement from the California-based company.
LA fitness says it hopes to close the deal within the next several weeks.
Urban Active is not commenting on the sale, but the Lexington Kentucky Herald Leader from Lexington, Ky.-- where Urban Active is based -- reports that LA fitness is not planning to close any gyms or change anything immediately.
The Herald Leader also says LA fitness will continue to honor current contracts at the current rates.
Urban Active has been the subject of many complaints, news reports, and even lawsuits over its billing practices, and at one time had a "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau for unresolved complaints.
Many Urban Active members complained about being unable to get out of memberships once their contract expired. Others complained of gyms reducing classes and child care after they signed a contract.
LA Fitness, on the other hand, has a stellar rating with the Better Business Bureau.
