Sporting goods maker STX is recalling 4,000 throat protectors used in lacrosse due to the risk of injury.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday that the throat protector, which attaches to a goalie's helmet, can crack when struck by a lacrosse ball. STX has received one report of the protector breaking, resulting in bruises and cuts to the user's neck.
Consumers should stop using the product and contact Baltimore-based STX for a refund.
The throat protector was sold at specialty sporting goods stores from September through February for about $20 to $25. It is black and has the letters "STX" on the outer surface.
