SAN DIEGO - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped Friday to its lowest amount since Dec. 31, decreasing 1 cent to $3.642.

The average price has decreased 65 of the past 67 days, dropping $1.083 over that span, including nine-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 6.5 cents less than one week ago and 20.4 cents lower than one month ago, but 6.8 cents more than one year ago.

"We encourage drivers to continue to shop around for the lowest prices," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California. "That encourages competition and helps the prices drop faster."
