Angels Extend GM Reagins

POSTED: 2:58 pm PST November 6, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have given general manager Tony Reagins a contract extension, the club announced on Friday.

No terms of the agreement were released, but the team labeled the extension "long-term."

"I would like to thank the Moreno Family for their support and confidence as we continue our goal of winning World Championships," said Reagins. "It is an honor to work with a tremendous group of professionals, both on the baseball and business side of our organization. The vision of this organization, and the dedication of our employees for improvement on a daily basis, makes my role extremely gratifying."

The 42-year-old Reagins took over for Bill Stoneman on October 16, 2007, at which time he was given a three-year contract.

Reagins has put together an impressive resume since taking over the GM reigns. He was instrumental in signing free agent outfielders Torii Hunter and Bobby Abreu and pulling off key trades for pitchers Jon Garland and Scott Kazmir.

Under Reagins, the club has garnered back-to-back American League West Division titles and compiled a 197-127 record. He was named the recipient of the Andrew "Rube" Foster Award as the A.L. Executive of the Year at the 2008 Legacy Awards after the Angels went 100-62 that year.

The Angels were ousted by the Red Sox in the 2008 ALDS, and the team lost to the eventual World Series champion Yankees in the 2009 ALCS.
