Boston, which was knocked out of the ALDS by the Angels, sent Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez to Florida.

Hermida, 25, is a five-year veteran in the majors as he has spent his entire career in Florida, which picked him with its first pick of the 2002 draft.

He had his best season offensively in 2007 when he batted .296 with 18 home runs and 63 RBI over 123 games. In 2009, he batted .259 with 13 homers and 47 RBI in 129 contests.

Over his career, he has played in 516 games and is a career .265 hitter with 57 homers and 210 RBI.

Jones, 25, made his first appearance in the majors last season with Boston and over 11 games posted a 9.24 earned run average with no record.

Alvarez, 20, went a combined 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA in 26 games with Single-A Carolina and Lowell last season.
