There's plenty to do in San Diego this Halloween season, from visits to pumpkin patches to family friendly celebrations at places like SeaWorld and Legoland.

But if you're looking to get into the true spirit of Halloween, perhaps a visit to one of San Diego's haunted houses is the thing for you.

The Haunted Hotel
424 Market St., San Diego, CA 92101
Open now until Oct. 31 (Ticket information & schedule)

If you dare, check into the Haunted Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter -- the longest-running haunted house in San Diego. Considered one of the top haunted houses in the country, the Haunted Hotel has numerous frightening attractions that visitors will have to overcome to make it out with their sanity intact.

The Haunted Trail
Juniper St. and 6th Ave. in Balboa Park
Open now until Oct. 31 (Ticket information & schedule)

During the Halloween season, not everything at Balboa Park is bright and beautiful. Visitors take an outdoor, mile-long journey full of terror and mayhem -- an experience not suitable for kids under 10 or the faint of heart.

The Scream Zone at the Del Mar Scaregrounds
2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar, CA 92014
Open now until Oct. 31 (Ticket information & schedule)

Visitors to the county's largest (and possibly scariest) haunted attraction will have four different attractions to test their mettle: The House of Horror, the KarnEvil, the Haunted Hayride and the brand new Zombie Boot Camp.

Scotty's Scare Trail
14039 Ridge Hill Rd., El Cajon, CA 92021
Open now until Oct. 30 (Ticket information & schedule)

It's the Halloween season, so why not a visit to an amusement park? Well, make than an abandoned amusement park that is said to be haunted by old employees and children who never left.

Savage House
Westfield Mission Valley at Target parking lot, 1640 Camino Del Rio North, San Diego, CA 92108)
Open now until Oct. 31 (Ticket information & schedule)

Considered San Diego County's only themed haunted attraction, Savage House visitors are dropped right in the middle of a horror movie-like story, complete with twists and turns and a building that is "unstable."
