Cockroaches: Public Enemy Number One

Loren's Field Notes

Cockroaches are members of the Blattaria suborder of insects and are easily recognized by their flattened oval shape. In North America there are about 50 known species.

Cockroaches have been recorded on earth for 350 million years and some scientists speculate they will still be here long after most life on earth is gone.

Fatty Roach Bait

  • 1/2 cup boric acid or borax
  • 1/8 cup sugar
  • Bacon drippings

Mix dry ingredients together with enough bacon drippings to form a paste. Add some flour if needed to form soft balls. Place marble-sized balls on wax paper wherever you see roaches.

Extra caution should be taken to keep this away from pets and children. The bacon makes this bait especially attractrive to dogs.

Discard when dry. Store extra balls in freezer for later use.
